Over the past few months my attention has been given over to a commission that consisted of 5 large wall panels. These are now finished and have been installed into the owners home where they look gorgeous, so I have been told!

As with all commissions, there is a fair bit of trial and error as an idea becomes reality. In order to get a feel for the finished pieces, I started by making a scale sized maquette of each panel. These were on display in my studio as I worked on the full sized ones and gathered a lot of admiring comments. Now that I have finished the commission, I am delighted to be able to offer the scaled down versions for sale.

During the process of making the 70cm by 30cm panels one unfortunately developed a stress crack in the kiln and needed to remade. As someone who hates wastage, I decided that I would repurpose and recycle it. This lead me to create two small panels which each accommodate a tea light holder, so that the glass is gently illuminated.
Previously I have been asked if I make necklaces, which I don’t, but parts of the broken panel had a beautiful organic quality so I decided to cut some of it into small pieces and re-fire them. The result was a selection of pendants which are now available for purchase and would make a lovely addition to someone’s jewellery box.

I was so pleased with the results of these pendants that I decided to explore the use of dichroic glass, which is popular with glass artists when making jewellery. The resulting pendants are delightful and I’m pleased to have explored this avenue.

The shimmer of the dichroic glass and the drawing in of the evenings made me realise that Christmas wasn’t very far off and I needed to get making, so over the last few weeks I have been busy creating decorations and gifts.

Why not come along and see what I have been making when I open my studio door on Saturday December 3rd from 10am till 4pm and again the following Saturday December 10th. Alternatively give me a call to arrange a visit (07894213819) or keep an eye out for my studio open signs.
